Wisconsin Facts

Based in Wichita, Kan., Koch Industries, Inc. is one of the largest private companies in America according to Forbes magazine. It owns a diverse group of companies involved in refining and chemicals; process and pollution control equipment and technologies; minerals; fertilizers; polymers and fibers; commodity trading and services; and forest and consumer products. Koch companies have a presence in nearly 60 countries and employ about 70,000 people.

Companies in Wisconsin

Flint Hills Resources, LLC, through its subsidiaries, is a leading refining and chemicals company. It markets products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, olefins, polymers and intermediate chemicals. From its Minnesota refinery, the company distributes refined fuel through its strategically located pipelines and terminals in Junction City, Waupun, Madison and Milwaukee. The company also manufactures asphalt at the refinery that is distributed to terminals in Green Bay and Stevens Point.

A Koch Pipeline Company, L.P. system crosses Wisconsin, part of the nearly 4,000 miles of pipelines owned or operated by the company.

The C. Reiss Coal Company is a leading supplier of coal used to generate power. The company has locations in Green Bay, Manitowoc, Ashland and Sheboygan.

Georgia-Pacific companies have six facilities in the state that manufacture consumer tissue, towel and wiper products, corrugated packaging, and hardboard. In addition, the company has offices and a research center in the state. Georgia-Pacific LLC, based in Atlanta, and its subsidiaries have approximately 300 manufacturing facilities across North America, South America and Europe, ranging from large pulp, paper and tissue operations to gypsum plants, box plants and building products operations.

  • Flint Hills Resources’ terminals in Wisconsin were among those recognized with the Platinum Safety Award from the International Liquid Terminals Association. The award recognizes member companies that have a strong commitment to continuous safety improvement. The terminals have also earned a Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award from the Wisconsin Safety Council and Wisconsin Department of Development for its 2007 performance.
  • Three Koch company sites in Wisconsin, The C. Reiss Coal Co. (Green Bay), Georgia-Pacific (Green Bay and Phillips), have earned STAR certification in the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Programs.
  • Koch Pipeline Company, L.P. was named one of America’s Safest Companies by EHS Today magazine in 2008. The company has earned the Occupational Safety Award from the American Petroleum Institute, its highest honor, and the Occupational Industry Leader Award from the National Safety Council. KPL employees have worked more than 6.3 million hours without a lost-time incident.

Community Commitment

  • Through the Georgia-Pacific Foundation, the company partners with many local and statewide organizations to improve the quality of life in communities where GP employees live and work. The GP Foundation focuses support in four key areas: education, enrichment of community, environment and entrepreneurship.
  • Freedom Park Visitors and Learning Center in Prescott will expand its educational programs through a $10,000 grant from Flint Hills Resources. The center provides hands-on experimental learning programs integrated with local schools and other youth groups such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H clubs. The grant will extend the programs to children in Ellsworth and Hastings schools, and to home school groups.
