Commitment to environmental excellence

INVISTA Victoria, Texas
Ducks fly over the wetlands at INVISTA's Victoria, Texas, manufacturing site. Koch companies strive to continuously improve operations to increase efficiency and reduce emissions and other waste.

Koch companies strive to:

Continuously improve operations to increase efficiency and reduce energy and water use, emissions and other waste.

  • Six Koch companies’ sites have been accepted into the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Performance Track program for continuous improvement in protecting the environment.
  • Koch companies recycle process water and collect storm water to be used again in the production process. Flint Hills Resources’ Minnesota refinery earned the Waste Water Operator Award from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for its water use program.
  • Koch Industries' global headquarters in Wichita, Kan., earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's prestigious Energy Star award, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection. It is the only Wichita office building to earn the honor and one of only five Energy Star-rated buildings in Kansas.
  • Flint Hills Resources’ Pine Bend Refinery earned the Minnesota Conservation Award from Xcel Energy for the success of its conservation projects. The site saved 8.7 million kilowatt hours in one year.
  • Georgia-Pacific's Broadway mill in Green Bay, Wis., has implemented a new state-of-the-art paper recycling system that will reduce water use by up to 1 million gallons per day and keep approximately 50 tons of solid waste from landfills. The mill uses more than 400,000 tons of the recycled wastepaper per year to produce branded tissue products such Soft N' Gentle® and So-Dri®.
  • Participate in reclamation and recycling programs to use reclaimed materials such as carpet, gypsum wallboard, paper, plastic and metal to make new products.

  • The INVISTA Reclamation Center, based in Calhoun, Ga., processes millions of pounds of used carpet each year. Most of the reclaimed carpet is recycled and used in new products, and the remainder is turned into carpet-derived fuel to produce useful energy.
  • Harmon Associates, a subsidiary of Georgia-Pacific, is one of the largest buyers and sellers of recovered fiber in the nation, trading in excess of 7 million tons each year. The Georgia-Pacific mills are Harmon's largest consumers of recycled fiber and one of the world's leading manufacturers of the paper products you use in your home and office each day.
  • Participate in programs that promote sustainable forest management.

  • Forty-five Georgia-Pacific corrugated box and sheetfeeder manufacturing operations have earned the stamp of approval from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Program, which promotes sustainable forestry practices; logger and forester training and educational outreach. To earn approval, two-thirds of a company's raw materials must come from recycled paper sources or mills with wood and fiber sources that are certified by a third party.
  • Develop Environmentally Preferable products under the Scientific Certification Systems program.

  • Georgia-Pacific’s ToughRock® gypsum wallboard and Dens® Glass Mat gypsum products are made with recycled content and carry the Environmentally Preferable Product certification.
  • INVISTA's ANTRON® carpet fiber was the first carpet face fiber to earn Environmentally Preferable Product certification by an independent third party. It was re-certified in 2008.
