Human Services and At-Risk Youth

A Salvation Army volunteer, left, helps a resident of Greensburg, Kan., after a tornado devastated the community. Koch companies partnered with the Salvation Army to provide disaster relief to families whose homes and businesses were destroyed.

By supporting relief agencies in time of natural disasters, Koch companies have helped people across the world.

Following Hurricane Ike’s landfall on Sept. 14, 2008, Koch Industries, Inc. and Flint Hills Resources donated $1.1 million to help residents along the Gulf Coast. Georgia-Pacific donated much needed items such as plates, cups, paper towels and diapers.

INVISTA and its employees gave nearly $258,000 in funds and in-kind donations to the Red Cross Society of China, the Salvation Army and other relief agencies for victims of China’s devastating earthquake in May, 2008. In 2005, Koch Industries contributed $100,000 to tsunami relief efforts, and together with other Koch companies and employees, contributed more than $3.3 million in cash and in-kind contributions to help victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Koch Industries is proud to support Youth Entrepreneurs Kansas. YEK is an educational and charitable organization that provides high school students the opportunity to learn business and entrepreneurial skills, and values to help them prosper and become contributing members of society. Since YEK’s founding in 1991, more than 8,800 Kansas high school students have graduated from the program. In 2006, Georgia-Pacific helped establish a similar program, Youth Entrepreneurs Atlanta. This growing program currently serves five Atlanta public high schools.
